I spent my thursday afternoon at Festoon Salon in Berkeley getting my makeup done by Jo Levy, a National Makeup Artist for BECCA Cosmetics. She was a real sweatheart. We had fun talking about products and she taught me a few tips and tricks that you only learn after years of practice and professional training. I love makeup, but I am no professional artist. And obviously I’m no photographer either. How do you like my in the car, driving in traffic on the bay bridge self portrait?!
Here is what she used on me to create my look, all products by BECCA:
FACE: Since my skin is combination and I do breakout from time to time, Jo recommended just using BECCA’s Radiance Primer and then the Compact Concealer in Sherbet. It has two sides, one that is a bit lighter and good for concealing under eyes and one that is heavier and drier, better for covering up blemishes and imperfections. She then set it all with Mineral Powder Foundation in Bliss. For blush, which Jo loves a lot (and I love her for it!), she used Mineral Blush in Damselfly and then highlighted the tops of my cheeks with the Shimmering Skin Perfector.
EYES: I told Jo I was up for anything and so she just went with it and created a beautiful smokey eye with browns and an subtle gold shimmer. It was dramatic but not so intense as one with black or grey shades. She used two Shimmering Eye Shadows, Satin (a beige gold shimmer) all over and Tussin (an antique beige gold shimmer) in the corner and crease. Then she laid on the eyeliner big time, both top and bottom. She used the Automatic Eye Pencil in Goa, a bronzed chocolate brown. She topped it off with a light dusting on the inder corners of my lids with loose powdery Jewel Dust in Aspara, a soft pearlized peach. A healthy coat of The Ultimate Mascara on both top and bottom lashes and my blue eyes were really set off by the shimmery, chocolaty look. She filled in my brows a little with the Brow Powder in Medium. A little brow fill-in always completes a great eye.
LIPS: For my lip color, she apply two products mixed together, the Beach Tint in Fig, a tea rose pink, and the Glossy Lip Tint in Firtini, a pale pink shimmer (I think that was the shade she used but I’m not sure, that was the one thing that didn’t get written down). She added a bit of the gloss by itself on top of the mixture, right in the center of my lips. The effect was shimmery and kissably glossy, but just a subtle rose pink.
I bought the concealer and the beach tint, but I am thinking that I might have to go back and get some jewel dust and maybe that chocolaty brown eyeliner. It is really a good look for me! They also threw in a free untinted butter balm with spf 20 which was very nice of them (all three pictured).
BECCA Cosmetics are available online or at various salons and boutiques throughout the US. If you are in the Bay Area, you can find them at Festoon Salon, in either their Berkeley or San Francisco locations. I am lucky that my work is about 3 blocks from the Berkeley salon… or maybe that’s unlucky, so tempting!
Jo Levy will be at the San Francisco Festoon Salon tomorrow as well, offering more complimentary makeup application/consultations. I would venture to guess her schedule is all booked, but it is worth a shot to see if she has a cancellation.
